The Escort was my son Nick's third car and was his pride and joy! He had kept it in pristine condition and had no wish to part with it but when, in 1997, he was offered a really good deal on a BMW he decided 'Eric' had to go. After 74,000 miles of trouble-free service we decided that rather than part with such a reliable and immaculate car, I should buy it from him. At the time I owned 'NellyV' a 1984 Vauxhall Astra Estate that, like the Escort, had given good service but in the 'comfort stakes' there was no comparison so the Astra had to go and 'Eric' became mine.
Having always been interested in cars and wanting to learn more about the Escort, I joined a couple of on-line clubs and attended my first car show, with the then MkV Register (later to become FEOC-uk.com) at Trax, Silverstone, in 2003.
